Tacloban City–A Leyteño had been appointed to assume office as the new regional executive director (RED) of the DENR-Region 8, replacing Lormelyn Claudio.

Environment Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga named Arturo Salazar, a Palo, Leyte-born professional, to take the helm of the regional office of the DENR, after Claudio was designated director of the DENR’s Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (ERDB) based in Los Baños, Laguna.

Claudio handed over the symbolic regional banner to Salazar as he assumed regional leadership, during the turnover ceremony held at the regional office, witnessed by other key officers and personnel of DENR-8.

Claudio, in her speech, cited some accomplishments but emphasized the need to do more for continued progress. She then thanked the officers and personnel of the DENR-8 for their hard work and contributions.

Salazar, prior to his present designation, was DENR-8’s assistant regional director for management services who provided disaster management people with inputs on climate change mitigation and adaptation.

In his speech, Salazar, as a management expert, shared his guidance for all employees and pledged to take care of their welfare. “My office is open to all of you, and I urge all officials to consider the needs of your personnel,” he declared. —-Miriam G. Desacada
