Tacloban City–A 64-year-old man was killed, while another 22-year-old laborer was wounded when a 41-year-old entrepreneur fired shots at them amid a heated argument over a land dispute at San Antonio, Eastern Samar Thursday (March 6) morning.

Police said the suspect, a resident of Barangay Ward III, was in a fiery discussion with the sister of the victim over a land altercation. When the other members of the family intervened, the suspect drew from his waist his 9mm gun and fired shots, hitting the two victims, and quickly fled from the scene.

Police operatives of the San Antonio Police Station, headed by deputy chief of police, P/Lt. Richard Cula, carried out a hot pursuit that resulted in the arrest of the escaping suspected gunman, whose identity has not yet been disclosed by the authorities.

The victims’ identities were likewise not disclosed yet by the police, except that the fatality was a boat operator of the town, who sustained several gunshot wounds in his chest and was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. The wounded one was hit in his shoulder and was given immediate medical attention.

The suspect is now in custody by the San Antonio Municipal Police Station, and his gun was seized as evidence for the filing of an appropriate case against him. —Miriam G. Desacada
