Journalism is more than just a profession—it is a calling, a responsibility, and a vital force in shaping a just and democratic society, where no one shall claim they are above all else in all aspects because each of us is just a continuing student of this noble mission.
Wherever we are based, whatever media outlet we belong, the unity of journalists is essential in upholding the integrity of our profession as purveyors of truth. At all times, we must stand together in our commitment to robust reporting via fair coverage, and fearless truth-telling. By fostering solidarity among us, media practitioners, we strengthen not only our credibility but also our ability to serve as watchdogs of good governance and champions of public interest.
Let us put an end to petty quarrels, and aimless bickering, which is done by throwing dirt to one another. One shall not destroy a person, and provoke to a fight, as if the destroyer is better than the other. Let us stop the spread of lies, character assassination, against our peer, because winning in the platform of debate is only about reasons of words or words of reason, but never to uplift one’s dignity.
No one is better than anyone, or no journalist shall be seen as superior to another because everyone is considered equal in value and worth, regardless of their abilities, achievements, or social status. Meaning, that everyone deserves equal respect and treatment, despite their differences in skills or backgrounds.
No one is above journalism, no one is better than the other. We all make mistakes. We must be guided by wisdom of humility, which is grounded on our relationship with God, so that we may accept that we are no better than anyone, as the superlative level is exclusive only to God, our creator.
A united press is an empowered press—one that safeguards democracy, amplifies the concerns of the marginalized, and inspires meaningful change. Through collaboration, professional development, and unwavering dedication to the truth, we can fortify the foundation of journalism in Eastern Visayas, ensuring that it remains a beacon of accountability and transparency.
Let us uphold our duty as journalist with integrity, remain steadfast in our pursuit of truth, and work together to build a stronger, more informed nation. Our unity as journalists is not just a choice; it is our responsibility.
